Ninth Death From Tainted Ecstasy Confirmed

Police have confirmed Calgary’s ninth death from ecstasy tainted with PMMA since July. According to Calgary-Times , the first death in the Edmonton area has also been confirmed, and officials believe PMMA is responsible for two more deaths there. A cluster of tainted ecstasy deaths surfaced this winter, and police believe that the more recent deaths are also attributed to the same batch of ecstasy.

DEA Raids 2 CVS Pharmacies in Florida

Florida DEA raided four pharmacies in the state’s recent effort to curb prescription drug abuse. According to Reuters , two of the pharmacies belonged to CVS. The large drug store chain hopes to fight this in court, and although they plan to cooperate with the DEA, they still remain committed to the customers of both stores and want to make sure they can get all the medication they need, no matter how controlled the substance is.

The White House Speaks of Whitney Houston

White House Drug Czar, Gil Kerlikowske, called Whitney’s death a “teachable moment.” He tells CBS News that her death is absolutely tragic, bringing light to prescription drug abuse. He claims that this problem affects many people, and the death count is near 15,000. Although the cause of Whitney’s death is still unknown, her battle with substance abuse was no secret.
